Health Science Certification Opportunities

Hidalgo ISD is partnered with South Texas College to provide the opportunity for their students to gain the following healthcare certifications:

  • Patient Care Technician –  2-Year Program: Junior & Senior Years

    • Phlebotomy certification

    • Electrocardiogram Technician (EKG) certification

    • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification

  • Pharmacy Technician – Senior Level Only

Dual Enrollment

Hidalgo ISD is partnered with South Texas College to provide dual enrollment courses for their students.

 

AP Courses

Hidalgo ISD also offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses. AP courses are classes that include an advanced placement exam at the end of the course. If a student earns a high enough score one of these exams, some colleges will give them that course for college credit. A few of the AP courses Hidalgo ISD has available for their students are:

  • AP Physics 1

  • AP Biology

  • AP U.S. History

  • AP Calculus AB

Science Courses

Hidalgo ISD offers many health science courses through their health science programs of study. The students will select the pathway they want to follow in 8th grade and will continue down this pathway until they graduate high school. They can change their pathway, if they need to, during 9th and 10th grades, but will no longer be able to once they reach 11th grade.  Below are the health science programs of study:

      • 10th grade courses: Medical Terminology and Pharmacy I

      • 11th grade courses: Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Microbiology

      • 12th grade courses: Pathophysiology, Practicum in Health Science, and Pharmacology

    • Healthcare Diagnostics

      • 9th grade course: Principles of Health Science

      • 10th grade course: Medical Terminology

      • 11th grade course: Medical Microbiology

      • 12th grade courses: Anatomy & Physiology, Pathophysiology, Practicum in Health Science

    • Nursing Science

      • 9th grade course: Principles of Health Science

      • 10th grade course: Medical Terminology

      • 11th grade courses: Anatomy & Physiology and Medical Microbiology

      • 12th grade courses: Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, and Practicum in Health Science
